Love DIY Gifts? Check This Out!

I'm always in need of a quick, last minute gift.  Since I'm on this crafting kick, I'm enjoying making these frames as a special way to say "happy birthday!" "thank you" or whatever else I need to give to show my token of appreciation.  I made this frame and gave it to the student that I mentor at Calhoun Middle School.  It was just a little something I wanted to give her to say "Adios!  Have a great summer!"

I thought it turned out really cute! The flower is made out of tissue paper with ribbon glued underneath.

It's so easy to make these.  Here's how you do it:

One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure

And  boy is it sooo true!! I found this dresser yesterday on Craigslist for FREE!  I've been wanting to find a cheap dresser to repurpose and use as a server/buffet in my dining room.  This is perfect!  You can see that one of the drawer gliders needs to be replaced, but no problem.  I'm more than happy to make some minor repairs on something that was given to me!

Now I have to decide what kind of style I'm going for and how I want to paint it.  Here are a few ideas...

Thrift Store Find: Vintage Inspired Clock

I've been at it again! I've been searching the thrift stores for a good bargain.  This time I found a vintage inspired clock at Twice As Nice.  If you haven't visited this thrift store in Denton, you should.  Not only do they have great things, but the store funds a great non-profit in the area.

I bet you are noticing that this clock is still in the box.  That's because it is BRAND NEW.  Regularly priced $15, I got it for $4 =)

I think it looks simply smashing on the night stand in the guest bedroom (more pics of this room to come!)

My Garden is Growing, Growing, Growing...

Remember what it first looked like?
 Now look at it!

Wowee it has really grown!  Some of the veggies I tried to start from seeds didn't make, ::sniff sniff:: But I do have 3 black eyed pea plants, maybe 2 green bean plants, an entire row of onions, an entire row of potatoes, 2 lettuce plants, a tomato plant, a bell pepper plant and a banana pepper plant.

I picked my first crop on Saturday.  A yummy banana pepper!  I ate it on my egg sandwich and it was delish!  I have a few tomatoes growing, a few more banana peppers that are almost ready, and some onions that can't wait to be pulled from the ground.  Oh, I can't wait to really dive in and eat the "fruits" of my labor!

Sew Simple

I've been wanting some trendier, more modern looking pillows for the living room.  I want a funky, fun, casual feel for that room.  Instead of buying new pillows, I made pillow covers out of some cool fabric for some pillows that we already had.  This is the first thing that I've ever sewn on my own and I think I did an ok job!  Even Justin said he was proud of me! :)

If you'd like to make your own, I followed this tutorial on youtube.
